WHAT: Use your bird brain and test your wings at the San Diego Zoo during Mission Fed’s Discovery Days: Festival of Flight. The four-day event is filled with fun activities for the whole family, from scavenger hunts to keeper talks to an amazing aerial feeding frenzy in the Scripps Aviary and more. Festival of Flight takes off on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 14. To observe the holiday, get up close with the national bird, the bald eagle, or celebrate 100 years of naval aviation at the military, USS Midway Museum and San Diego Air & Space Museum booths.
For the brave who are all aflutter to see things from a bird’s-eye view, the Zoo is offering four daily flying trapeze classes, where guests will swing to new high-flying limits. The 1.75-hour experience is $69 per person.
For those who are more like emus and other birds that keep their feet on the ground, reserve a spot on a bird-themed VIP tour of aviaries, behind-the-scenes areas and the possibility of feeding birds some special snacks. VIP tours are $69 per person.
WHERE: San Diego Zoo
WHEN: November 11 to 14
COST: Most activities are free with paid admission. Additional charge for VIP tours and trapeze school.
