Bacterial Infection Blamed
WILLIAMSBURG (April 30, 2011) – Tristan, a Clydesdale colt born at Busch Gardens on April 5, died at 8:30 p.m. on April 29 from a highly resistant bacterial infection.
As early as Friday morning, Tristan had been responding well to treatment for several equine-related ailments at an off-site veterinarian facility. By late afternoon, the foal's condition took a turn for the worse and deteriorated considerably.
“Tristan was under veterinarian care from the the time he was born. From the moment we thought there was an issue with his health, we transported him to an off-site veterinarian facility that was prepared to deal with any health issues. His death is unfortunate, and he will be missed,” said Jay Tacey, Busch Gardens manager of zoological operations.
