It’s coming up! Sunday, May 9, 2010, is Mother’s Day. And I have a couple of great gift ideas for you!
We have a wonderful new book in our gift shop called Wabash County Chronicles: Raucous, Quirky, and Essential Tales. It was written by local authors Ron Woodward and Gladys Harvey. Gladys is a retired school librarian and Ron is a retired teacher, who is now the Wabash County historian. Both of them have done serious historical research into the county’s past. But this is not that book! According to Ron, “Wabash County Chronicles is not a serious academic look at Wabash County history. It is an attempt to preserve and pass on stories to another generation.” I bought the book and read it in one sitting! Very enjoyable reading, charming stories, and a great Mother’s Day gift for $19.99. (Hey, if you are a member, you get a 10% discount!)
Speaking of Memberships…
Memberships are a great way to support the museum. They also make fabulous gifts. Just pop them in a card and no wrapping is involved! Benefits of a membership last for a year and include admission to the museum exhibits, special exhibits, History Hunters events, and Family Fun Days. Members also get a 10% discount in the gift shop. We have individual, family, and grandparent memberships available.
Speaking of History Hunters Events…
Our next History Hunters event will be held on May 27. William Jones, an aerial photographer in the Army Air Corps during World War II. During the Occupation of Japan he took low altitude atomic bomb damage photographs of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Jones’ photos are in several museums including the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and he will share many of these historic images during the program.
This event will take place in the multi-purpose room at the Museum from noon-1 pm. The History Hunters events, sponsored by Peabody Retirement Community, are free for members or with a paid daily admission. To reserve your spot or for more information, call 260-563-9070. Those attending are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the program. Seating is limited, so please call the museum at 260-563-9070 to reserve your spot for this event. And bring a friend!
