BOOK FESTIVAL ADDS GOLD MEDAL PERFORMANCE

Kristi Yamaguchi headlines the Annual
ScholarShare Children's Book Festival

Fairytale Town September 24-25

Another story is set to come alive at Fairytale Town during the 11th annual ScholarShare Children's Book Festival, a two day event  on September 24 and 25. On Saturday, September 24, Kristi Yamaguchi, former Olympic athlete, will be at the festival presenting her book, "Dream Big, Little Pig" the story of Poppy the Pig and her journey to follow her dream.

Just like Poppy, Kristi Yamaguchi knows how important it is to dream big. The publication of her first illustrated children's book, "Dream Big, Little Pig" is a continuation of Kristi's philanthropic efforts. As an Olympic gold medalist figure skater, artist, and philanthropist, the motto "Always Dream" has inspired Kristi personally and professionally as the name of her charitable foundation.

The Always Dream Foundation has focused on inspiring children since 1996. In the fifteen years since its creation, the foundation has funded back-to-school shopping sprees for underprivileged children, purchased computers for after-school mentoring programs, and hosts several special events annually.

Kathy Fleming, Executive Director of Fairytale Town says "Fairytale Town is excited to welcome Kristi to the annual ScholarShare Children's Book Festival.   Her story of Poppy the pig echoes Fairytale Town's own narrative of encouraging children to use their imagination and follow their dreams."

In its 11th year, the ScholarShare Children's Book Festival features numerous activities including; presentations from children's authors and illustrators, story-telling performances, hands-on literacy activities, a book swap, and information on literacy-based activities from various community organizations.

Thanks to the generous support of ScholarShare College Savings Plan the two day event is free to the public; making it possible to host an astounding 13,000 attendees last year. ScholarShare commemorates September as College Savings Month by helping families plan for their children's academic futures.   Special thanks to our event sponsors ScholarShare College Savings Plan, Wells Fargo, the River Cats Foundation, IKEA, The Sacramento Bee, KVIE Channel 6, and Mix96. The festival is able to provide informative and entertaining activities that encourage children and parents alike to renew or create a love of reading.
